On side focus scopes offered by Tasco , or schmidt & bender, does the adjustment wheel encompass the chamber area or can you get to the chamber easily?

Side focus is at the 9 O'clock position outside the chamber area.
Don't be fooled by side focus as the absolute best.
It is very difficult to design it, and even so much more difficult to manufacture it, so it will work correctly thru it's adjustment range.
You will pay considerably more for it, because of the complications, and that it is used very little compared to objective adjustments, so manufacturing costs are higher.
Objective adjustments is still more accurate, but not as easy to use.
If you don't use a very high quality manufacturer, you will not see as well as you should at longer ranges.
Tasco doesn't build that model, and they do not track well.

Leupold, Schmidt and Bender, or Nightforce are where you want to concentrate. These are very well built and accurate. The above advice on a cheap scope with side focus is absolutely correct, there is no such thing as a cheap tactical scope.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

The Tasco SSM series is a very well made Sniper scope 10X with 30mm tube.
    Excellent optics.
As good as my Leupold Marks.
And has a Navy NSN #.
I don't own any other Tasco scopes.

Cmpermd, Those scopes were special contracts, and manufacturers are at certain times "allowed" to sell overruns, and/or units not bought by the Defense Dept.
They are pretty good deals for the money.

Steiner is the #1 supplier of binocs to the military. Lots of binocs were "lost" in & after Desert Storm. So, the US contracted with Simmons for special binocs,....because they could get almost 2 1/2 Simmons for 1 Steiner. So much for our boys always having the best.

The tasco custom shop series are excellent scopes. However, I had to make a new scope base because the side focus wheel on my 8-40x56 was directly above the front ring on my Mauser 98 action. I have heard that there are long scope mounts available, but I had a machinist friend build one to my rifle's spec. It is very comfortable to use the side focus (switching between 100yd and 200yd at the range.)
