Howa

First of all, I'm a Remington man when it comes to bolt action rifles. I'm also one that likes to shoot and help a friend out so when a buddy needed a little money and I asked him if he had any guns, he told me about this Howa 7MM-08. I looked up the value on it and loaned him $250 on it.

It's a model 1500 with a 20" barrel (youth model?) and the standard Nikko Sterling 3-10x42 scope. It's blue with what appears to be an original stock. In addition it came with a Harris Bipod and a nice hard case.

It's been a year and he hasn't shown any interest in paying me back so I'm assuming that it's mine now and headed out to the range for some fun time.

I'd like to hear what "The Experts" have to say about this weapon....

Anyone ever heard of Howa? Any experience with their long guns? How should they be priced compared to more well known makers?

yes i have heard of howa. i owned at one time a howa 1500 in .308. very accurate but a bit heavy.the gun was a tack driver and functioned flawlessly.i don't know if you are aware of it but howa is a japanese firm that has high quality metallurgy. they have made actions for a few of the better known rifle makers such as weatherby and smith and wesson, just to name a few. take a look at some of the better known rifle designs and you will find that it is similar to the howa. strong action and a little overkill but one accurate rifle for the money. i can buy one in any non magnum caliber in n.y for 350.00 all day. clarkey

I have owned only one Howa.It was a model 1500 in 300 Win. Mag.This rifle would group 3 shots in a half inch at 100 yds.I sold it only because i had no need for that large of a caliber.I thought it was excellant quality, and would not hesitate to buy another.

I agree with what's already been said. I've shot several of them and they were all good. Some of them are a little thin on the bluing, but they're mostly using guns anyway.

I have a Smith $ Wesson 1500 built by Howa in 30.06. It was so well built and so accurate that I've bought two other Howa 1500's, one in .270 the other in 300 Win Mag. They are the best built, most accurate rifles I've ever shot out of the box. I would strongly recommend one.

Have one in 270, and think accuracy is damn good for the price.

Here is another thumbs up on the Howa. The Howa 1500 was previously sold under the Weatherby Vangard name, and also sold as a Smith and Wesson. Mine is a barreled action in .308 which I bedded on a Boyds JRS Classic stock. As said before it is a tack driver, shoots better than I do. If Varmit Hunter likes it, you can take it to the bank.
