I would really like some input on a potential purchase. I have a few holster and only use them occasionally. I need a new holster for CCW. My dilemma is that I have a "blued" gun and want to protect the finish as much as possible. What material is LEAST abrasive to a guns finish.Leather, Plastic, Nylon?

Now from what I've seen, leather seems to do a real number on some guns. So am I right. Any input would help here.

ive recently purchased the above galco open end holster for my s&w 629 classic 5" .44. it didnt take long for me to realize this holster was a bad choice in that it leaves the barrel and front site exposed to cut into my leg when sitting.

id like to find a holster that covers the entire barrel but everything ive found for the 629 also fits the 6.5" barrel leaving me with more holster than i have gun. were it not for sitting comfort i would have purchased the 6.5" barrel anyway.

im wondering if anyone makes a holster specifically for the 5" classic so that i have enough, but not to much.
    thanks!

I just bought a Ruger 22/45 target and put a red dot scope on it. Does anyone know of a holster that fits on my belt I can buy for it?

You can't really just go by plastic, leather, or nylon, cause it depends on the actual holster. See alot of quality holsters have liners of a softer material than their outer make. You may have a leather holster and a plastic holster with the same softness of a liner.

You're really going to just have to accept that you are going to get holster wear, I don't care if your holsters lined with felt.

I'd say you really just have to go shopping around, and sticking you finger in holsters.

I just wish I had a dollar for every gun I wanted, then I'd be a rich man.

IMO I use a Bianchi Black Widow for my 1911's (works for full sz and my Detonics Combat. Its an unlined leather holster that is open on the bottom with a snap over the hammer. Holds tight to my side, and allows for clean and fast draws. My buddy has the same design in Safariland, but his is lined - and his is worthless if you need quick access.
I've heard that the leather used for lining holds dirt, (abrassive) and contains acidic compounds both of which can be bad for blueing.

The materials used for tanning leather will indeed remove bluing. Don't store your pistol in a leather holster. I use ballistic nylon holsters, which have a tougher, heavier thread weave on the out side and a much finer thread weave on the lining. I don't carry daily however. I would look for a high quality holster, but a well respected maker like Bianchi and then take care of that pistol, accepting that you will have some holster wear if you carry a lot.

Holster wear will happen with any kind of gun you carry, if you are worried about appearance might i suggest a stainless side arm, the wear will be there but not as apparent.

Bianchi has pretty good mid-price range products, I have quite a bit of their stuff and am very happy with it.

For the holster perfectionist, you may want to look at Kramer Leather. http://www.handgun-holsters.com/

The Bianchi Model 7 lined holster is the one my off duty guns sleep in, so far they have not even began to complain. Or should I say show Holster wear and I have over 50 of them.

    Good Luck.
