Glock Newbie

I'm not sure if I lost my bearings(being most partial to 1911s and P220s), but I just bought a used Glock 23. I never had any inclination to go with a Glock, but I was always curious about how good they really were (or weren't) and I thought adding a 40 S&W to my options seemed useful--if not really necessary to someone with 45s and 9s. I don't know about you, but plastic just doesn't seem natural to firearms. But my curiousity got the best of me.
My first shoot changed my opinions considerably. I still prefer my other guns, but this has to be one of the easiest guns to shoot that I have ever handled. I'll have to shoot it more to be sure, but it doesn't seem to need anything modified: it's accurate, smooth and is very comfortable to hold and fire. The sights are fine--I like the big white dot.
Yes, I still hate plastic(save for my Fobus holsters), the gun is uglier than my Sigs (and they are homely) and frankly, nothing holds a candle to my customized 1911. But I have to say I like this one a lot.
One question: is it worth bothering getting pre-ban mags for this gun? On a 9, I'd feel better with more rounds, but if I had to grab the Glock in the middle of the night, I doubt I'd be emptying more than 10 rounds of 40 S&W into a burglar.

The Hi-cap thing is a mental disorder that will strike you and there is nothing you can do about it.
I have a Glock 22 that shoots better and more accurately than my Sig229 or my Ruger P89. They're both great guns, but my Glock is still my favorite. It might not have all the pretty curves and buttons of some others, but it's the best shooter (IMHO). You also picked a great caliber. You have better stopping power than a 9mm and bigger capacity than the 45.
They have a barrel which is seated lower than many handguns, so the muzzleflip is greatly reduced. The plastic may take some getting used to, but that sucker is TOUGH. The grip does suck if you don't have the Hogue sleeve on it, but once you have it, it feels very natural.
It's not a coincidence that many police departments use the Glock. They don't have a great reputation for nothing!
Phew! That said, I think it is a good idea to have a hi-cap, just because they are still available. Buy used if you can, the price of a new one is ridiculous. Other than to have and take to the range, you really don't need one. It's up to you if you feel $70 is worth it.

mballai, your story is very similar to mine. I thought the whole ideal of a "plastic" gun was silly. I remember thinking there was no way I would ever own one. Then I fired a friend's G21. I bought one the next week. I have purchased five others since then and currently the G23 is my favorite of the bunch. I still prefer my 1911's overall, but the G23 is my current house gun.
