Serial number 159,400. 45-70 ELW takedown. This rifle is super close to the last recorded number, isn't it?

The last year of production was 1922, the year ending serial number was 159956. So, your 556 from the last one.
I got this information from Bert's last book, he will no doubt be along and add to this information.

I would not say "super close", but it is close. Serial number 159997 is known to exist. Production of the Model 1886 (86) ended in 1928, with parts clean-up taking place through 1935.

When exactly serial number 159400 was manufactured is unknown, as the factory serialization records at the Cody Firearms Museum end at 120795 (12-26-1899), and the warehouse ledger records end at serial number 156599. The year ending serial number information in my book for the years 1900 - 1922 was derived from an unverified source, and it is most likely not completely accurate. What I suspect, is that it was manufactured sometime between 1922 - 1928. Production was most likely just a few hundred per year in the final six years of the production run.

Many thanks! I'm not buying it, just wanted to bring it to the attention of a few folks.
