Saw this bayonet at an auction preview and was wondering how old it is and who made it. I suppose it could be a harpoon tip too. It has a "48" stamped on it.

World War II era. Some were reworked Model 1891 rifles, others were purposely built as cavalry carbines.
EDIT #1, Don't know the meaning of the 48 marking?
