A dealer lie about whether a gun is new or used? Well, it can happen, but is rare. You could ask to see the dealer's Bound Book for the gun, and under Acquisitions it will show the name of the manufacturer or distributor if it is new. You run the (likely) risk that the dealer will be insulted that you questioned his integrity, and ask you to leave his shop.Otherwise, it should be in a factory box with new wrapping, instructions, & warranty card. (We could tell you more exactly what to expect if we knew what model gun you are looking at.) Most importantly, close inspection should show no scuffs, dings or abuse, & no more wear than test firing would produce; if it passes that test, why worry?Neal

I could only see two reasons to care if it is in perfect condition. 1. If it affected the mfg's warrenty. 2. If it had been used in a crime.
