.577 Double Rifle Question

I have a Thomas Bland & Sons .577 double rifle. It is a hammer gun with the under lever to open the action. It is in great condition with bright bores and good wood. Was probably refinished somewhere along the way since the bluing is still quite nice (a few scratches etc.). I also have a .577 rcbs die set and a custom LBT bullet mold as well as approx 75 brass cases. Any ideas on what this all might be worth would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Jay

JCS, have you corresponded with Cape Outfitters yet? They do lots of sales on those double cannons. They even have a web page (or two). I haven't seen a .577 UL advertised anywhere for some time, and they rarely appear. Good luck getting it properly appraised.

As mentioned before, the best source I could find after a short search was capeoutfitters.com They offer two double rifles of the same make as yours. One is a 375 for $8300 the other is a 470 for $15,950 . However these firearms are like fine art. Values vary due to several factors. I would send pictures to capeoutfitters and get their opinions.

Is the gun proved for nitro? Late .577's could be but the majority with outside hammers are black powder - the Jones lever also indicates an earlier gun. Big difference in price between black powder and nitro double rifles.

Yes it is Nitro proofed and is so marked with the approved load.

Is this a 2" .577 Snyder or the big 3"? Back action, or boxlock? how many leaves on the sight ramp? What ever your answer, I would suspect it would be worth your while to take several quality photographs of it and send them off for appraisal. The double gun section of Gun List has several addresses of folks/organizations that can do this. Undoubtedly they will want to have the rifle for final evaluation. The cartridge components alone are worth about $6-700.
