Hi all,I'm looking to get a "house gun", and would like to go with a short barreled shotgun.I love the Win. 1897 style gun.I see Norinco has a decent looking piece,(copy) but am not sure of the quality of Norinco firearms. I know they are not "top of the line" but are they decent enough to be reliedupon just in case??Thanks Wolf

In my opinion, they are good quality at a reasonable price. My SKS, MAK90, and 54T have never failed, and would not hesitate to use one in self-defense.

When you say "Is it good enough" do you mean Is it good enough when the safety of yourself or your family depends on it, or, just good enough to have around the house? When concidering something for home defence, is it logical to use something that is new to the market and has no track record of reliability, which is made by an enslaved people for export to a country which enjoys freedoms they will never have?I don't mean to be arragant, but its something to think about ...

My "home defense" gun is a model 98 Norinco, 18" barrel, 12 ga, 5 shot, 3" chamber, dual action bars, exact copy of the Remington 870, and it cost $169.00.I have fired it many times using different loads and brands of ammo without any problem. However, if it should fail, you can use it as a baseball bat. It is all steel as opposed to the aluminum Mossberg -Charlie

I have the Mossberg. The one advantage to the aluminum is that it's easier to swing around and aim quickly. If you need a club, a baseball bat is cheaper. BTW, when I bought it, it came with a pistol grip. I have since changed that to a regular synthetic stock following the advice of someone with more experience than I, who said that with the pistol grip there is a tendency to shoot high.

While the Norinco is an OK firearm, buy the Mossberg, a used Winchester, or Remington.DON'T put more American dollars in the Chinese Military. Norinco is an arm of the Chinese Military and your heard earned dollars are going to support communism, terrorism, and theft of American classified materials.China IS our ultimate enemy. They are NOT a "partner", friend, or anything else benign. Before your children are grown, there is likely to be war with China. Don't be stupid and support the enemy!!!

I was thinking the same thing, but its just not high quality enough to stake your life on. They have alot of tool marks all over their internals that make its action very hard to pump. It will also jam, yes jam, and the worst possible kind of jams, a double feed. The guns market was for SASS type shooting, its a toy not a defense gun.Not only that but the same near $400 you will end up spending on a Norinco 97 you can get a nive Mossberg or Remington.

I have an 870 myself, but realisticaly, a break action single shot is probably all you'll ever get to use if at all. What ever you feel comfortable sleeping next to works good.
I'll buy just one more gun and I'll quit.....HONEST....History is a vast early warning system
