I am in the process of trying to put together a collection of 11-48 Remingtons. So far I have two, one in 12 gauge and one in 16 gauge. The 16 gauge is marked 11-48 but the the 12 gauge is marked 11-48B. What does the "B" stand for.

    Will a Remington 1100 or 11-87 buttstock fit a Remington 11-48?

    Thanks

    From the sunny/rainly south [8D],

I just bought the first ever Remington 11-48 that I've ever held and looked over. I was never actively looking for one...but I saw this nice example and the price was right. I know there are after market goodies for the 870, 1100s and more, but are there any worthwhile goodies for the 11-48? Also, I read earlier posts that mentioned feed woes...are there any other inherent problems with this model?

    TTFN,

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I CAN SIMPLY INSTALL AN 11-87 BUTT STOCK AND FOREARM REPLACEMENT ON MY 11-48 ? MY 11-48 HAS A CRACKED BUTT STOCK AND I AM HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME FINDING A WOOD REPLACEMENT IN 11-48. I WOULD EVEN USE SYNTHETIC IF I COULD FIND THE BUTT AND FOREARM.
OR, DO I HAVE TO USE AN 11-48 PIECE?
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR TYOUR TIME.

Hey, when you remove the handguard you should see a ring holding the recoil spring on. Reversing this ring adjusts for hi-brass/standard load shells. DON'T FORGET to turn it back around when using hi-brass as it will kick the * out off ya. Also, never ever oil the recoil spring as that too will cause the gun to kick like a mule.

mpinkston, thanks for your reply, right now the ring says " for light loads up" and the arrows are facing up as the butt plate sits on the floor. it also says for heavy loads up, and those arrows are facing down. i guess i could try reversing it, unless you have any other suggestions. thanks for your time, george

also the ring is in 2 pieces,1 about 1/2 in thick, the other about 1/4 inch thick. should this be one piece, and this is the problem? thanks

My old 11-48 does not have those markings on the ring (probably worn off) but if memory serves, the inner ring is larger than the outer ring and the inner ring protrudes farther out on one side of the outer ring than it does the other. This is what makes the difference in the recoil spring. Infortunately, I cannot remember which way it goes on for which type load. I wish I could be of more help but maybe someone else may have that info. Mark

my 11-48 says on it "up for all loads " the other end says "over coil spring" maybe mine is a newer 11-48 anyways it ejects everthing i shoot in it. jams once in a while but that is because the tang that catches the next shell doesnt always catch doc
