I have noticed a number of these old S&W copies here on the auction. Has anyone worked up and smokeless loads for this cartridge?I was thinking maybe about 2.4 gr of bullseye might be a starting point 13k psi . But maybe need something slower burning and a lower psi.

This came up awhile back and the conventional wisdom was that this cartridge was originally loaded with black powder, and would be best reloaded as such. I'm not saying that you can't work up such a load, but be aware that the burning of smokless and black powder have different pressure peaks both in p.s.i. and time into the burn.

Why don't you just stuff a bullet on top of a case full of Cleanshot.. I've been experimenting with it in my 45-70. I've had no trouble with fouling or corrosion.Cleans up by pouring hot water through the barrel or with just a wet patch. Follow that with an oily patch and your done.WOODS
