This should really bring lots of replies. I'm new into rifle reloading and am looking for help in determining some direction for 308 loads. I'll be loading a 110gr. varmint load and a 150gr. deer load. What do I look for in a good powder? Anyone have some thoughts on this?

I held off on answering this one until I re-read the title and found the operational word to be "favorite" instead of "best"--which was what I originally thought it said. I have never reloaded .308 in 110 gr. For 147, 150, 165, and 180 gr. I use H-4895.

    Like D. G. , I have never loaded a 110 load for the 308 but for 147 and 150, I've had the best results with W748.

I have also never loaded a 110 gr. for the 308.I have never had any trouble finding a good load for 150--165 gr. with either H-4895 or IMR 4064.

Well I'll chime in with the familur "I have also never loaded a 110 gr. for the 308" either, but for 168 HPBT Match Sierra's (the only .308 I shoot now days) I like Accurate 2230 ... it also works very well for my .223's ...

For bullets 110 grs. to 200 grs. To me the very best is Hodgdon's H-380.The spherical powder is a pleasure to dispense through your powder measure. Most manuals (not all) recomend magnum primers.

I have been loading for the 308 since 1967, using Speer bullets from 110 grain Varminter to 165 grain Grand Slam and use IMR3031 only. It doesn't meter the best but it performs the best. Try Remington brass, CCI 200 primers and 41 grains of IMR3031 with any of these bullets. If I had only one choice of powder for all my rifle cartridge reloading it would be IMR3031.

I have gotten excellent accuracy from AA2520 and most any 165, 168, and 180 bullets..The Shooting Times which arrived today has a good article on the .308.

    1. IMR 4064 (all) if your rifle don't group with this or Varget then throw it away! 2. VARGET (all)3. WIN 748 (110--150gr)4. IMR 3031 (110gr)check out the bench resty rest shooters, they use Varget or 4064 exclusively. Sierra recommends 41.4 gr of IMR 4064 with 168gr HPBT as the accuracy load.Good luck but call the bullet manufacurer and they will send you the info you want.
