I was wondering if there was any demand for a 788 in .44 mag. and if so what value one would put on one in 95% condition? Thanks, Steve

    Theres a demand alright!!I`ve got them in 308,and 30-30,that I got for around $170.apeice,but I think they are worth almost double that...and a 44 would be even more.If a guy had to have it,and the 44s are not easy to find,I`m thinkin` around here,where I live,about $350. up to $450.Give ya $175. for it .218

The 44 and 30-30 were the first two calibers to be offered and the first to be discontinued. Everyone that I have seen (30-30, 44) has had a walnut stock whereas the later 788s have a birch stock. As they are a rimmed case they take a special magazine which are very difficult to replace. I have seen them sell for as little as 50.00 and as high as 150.00, so if you have one don't loose it. 788s are bringing unusually high prices right now. I have seen the 44 listed for 600.00 however no bidders. In the condition you describe 400.00 is more accurate. Remember they were ment to be an economy model and don't have a great finish and the rifeled sights are cheap.

Remington bettered themselves on sorry guns when they brought out the 710!! It surpasses the 788 for bad. However a 44 might be an interesting one to have in the gun safe!!
