I got a Stevens 311 with the screw broken off on the trigger guard. What is the easiest way to get this stub of the screw out?

I broke a screw when tightening a scope ring - it's a Redfield ring with a hex head, secures top 1/2 of mount to bottom. Does anyone know what the screw size & pitch is so I can replace?

Don't mean to be smarta--, though this may sound like it, but the easiest way is to take it to a gunsmith. If you don't have the tools to do the job, that is probably also the best way.

Screw extractors are made for that job, but like He Dog said take it to a gunsmith. If you have to ask you won't be able to do it yourself.

I assume it's the rear screw. Take off the buttstock, barrel and forend.Soak the screw for a couple of days with Kroil, Zep or auto transmission oil, clamp the action in a padded vise, carefully slot the screw stub with a swiss, knife file, give the screw a few light taps and hopefully turn out the screw. If this fails, a gunsmith or machinist can do it.
