Here's one for all you Marlin and Winchester finatics: Which caliber in a Marlin or Winchester lever action is your favorite and why? What makes this caliber better than another caliber? 30-30, 35 Rem, 444, 45-70 450?

For me 30/30, hands down. First dear rifle, bought by my parents and given to me for Christmas was a 336. Killed my first deer with it, and several since. Keeping it back for my son to hunt with in a few years. That being said, I would love one in .35 though!

.30-30 is fun. If I could sneak a Savage 99 in there I would say .300 Savage. Way better than .30-30.

Guess my favorite has to be the only owne I own. Marlin 3030.45-70 is one I ponder getting someday-as is the Savage 99, calibre? who knows.

You left out the .348 Win. Some of us have to be different. Hits HARD and has a bit more reach.- And you look cool carring one.

Great Grandpas 86 in 45-70 is in the safe but it's not my favorite. It's fun to shoot for a while, after about 2 boxes that crescent butt starts to sting a bit.I'd have to say my Marlin 93 takedown in 32-40. Accurate, Easy to reload, Cheap to shoot with home cast bullets, easy on the ears and shoulder.WOODS

Not that it's particularly well known but simply because I have an 1886 Winchester in this caliber I'd nominate my .40-82....pretty unusual and fairly hot at the time of its introduction. BeachP.S. In reality it would have to be the 30-30 or 45-70.

Winchester Model 88 in .308. Eliminated the exposed hammer, had a clip, the trigger moved with the lever, and it had a short stroke rotary bolt. Next best Savage Model 99.

Call me a heretic for saying this, but I still love lever 22's. Taught my daughter to shoot with one. It has the advantage of giving them experience with a real gun, not a single shot. I felt more comfortable knowing she could handle it, and then move up to a 30-30.
