Original model 12 chambered for 2-9/16

I recentley saw a 16 Ga model 12 chambered for 2-9/16" shells. Upon research I found they did make some of these in the early stages of the model 12 in 16 gauge. Alot of them were rechambered for 2-3/4 due to popularity. I was wondering the value of this odd duck. Lets say the blueing is about 80% and the wood is the same. What is its value?

All of the 16 ga. guns produced before 1927 were 2 9/16 inch chambers. While a lot of them were re-done to 2 3/4's inch chambers - the 2 9/16's inch guns are still available. Price it out like a M12 from that era and in that condition and you'll have a good ballpark figure on what it's worth. Your description makes it sound like a nice shooter, but other than the short chamber I didn't see anything in your post suggesting the gun was rare.

The guy who has it said it was registered with winchester. What does that mean? Do they know where the gun is and the present owner possibly? Does it increase the guns value?

Yes , the early model 12's had the "short"chamber of 2 9/16 , according to some of the "winchester" people , all the gauges had these , be very carefull about shooting thesethey can be converted??? but with the short chamber they can create high preasure and cancause other problems upon firing ....there isa man in Duqion Illinos (???) that is a factory reccomended service spot for model 12s, cant remember his name , maybe some-one else can help.....good luck.....
