When will we see the 17 Hornady Rimfire Magnums hit the market and who's going to chamber them?

Did anybody get to see the new rifles in 17 HRM at the big show? Are they going to be on our dealers shelves soon?

I did not attend trhe show but my distributors tell me the MArlin's should be available very shortly. The Ruger's will follow later towards summer.

Well i was at my local gun shop today and they told me the price of the marlin Model 17V would be 179.00 but they said ammo would be 9.99 for 50 rounds. At that price i think the gun is a great deal it even comes with scope rings. But the price of the ammo seem a little high. I did not see the gun at the show but i wish i could have.

what was it P.T. BARNUM said ? (remember the 5m/m), buy some ammo & store it good, 20 or so years you should be able to get 70 to 100 bucks a box. look what 5m/m is bringing today.

fergusonmorse, How many boxes of 5mm do you want? I can find all you will shoot in your lifetime. When Remington made the 5mm, nobdy else made it. We're looking at Marlin, Ruger, N.E. and who else knows who else will chamber for it! Also the ammo is a conglomeration of people with Hornady, Hodgedon and CCI? making the ammo. All of those people working together will help insure this one makes it. I will own and shoot the first one in Va. just like the 597Magnum. Dale Earnhardt got the first one, Rick Mast got the second one and I got the third one!!! Keep shooting your 30M1 carbine and let the rest of us shoot what we want too!!!!

leeblackman, The cover of American Rifleman is the fullsize picture of the cartidge this month. Shooting Times and Riflrshooter have also had articles in the last couple of months about it. In a nutshell, it is a 22 Magnum necked down to 17 cal. The ballistics are 2550 fps at the muzzle with very flat trajectory. compared to 22 Mag. with a 30 grain bullet, sighted in dead on at 50yds., You will be 3.1 inches low at 150 yds compared to 9 inches low with the 22Mag. That is exceping the fact that a cat may fart somewhere between the muzzle and the target and blow the little bullet plum sideways!! I'll take my chances on the breeze and shoot the cat if I see him!!!
