44 Mag - Best Revolver?

Okay, I'm thinking about a Blackhawk, a Taurus M44 or a S & W M29 or M629, .44 Magnum? Are any of these lots better than the others? Is there a better choice in that price range?

Rugers are a good choice but IMHO I"d pay the extra for a sweet vintage Mod 29 Smith and Wesson.I have a 27 (357 in same frame) and While I love Colt Pythons I own the Smith.Shy away from the Tarus's, Llama's and the like - if for no other reason than American made.

I just bought a Smith 29, never fired, sat in a safe since manufacture around 10 years ago. I've handled the others, fired the Super Blackhawk, and none ever held a candle to the Smith 29 in my view. When I first used a friend's some 20 years ago, I couldn't believe how well it fit my hand -like the proverbial glove. Also accurate as could be(and that one was a 6"; mine's an 8-3/8). Also an outstanding SA trigger pull -no creep at all(average marksmen like me need all the help we can get). The Taurus has lots of weight hanging on the barrel which, I'm sure, assists in holding the thing steadier for the hunt, but the grip doesn't fit the contour of my hand at all, and I think that's important. To each his own, but I'm going to keep my old, but new, Smith.

If you want strength, go with the Rugers. For trigger action, go with the S&W.

If you want not just a good, but the best .44mag revolver you might check out Smith and Wesson's Performance Center Website. I got a Jerry Miculek 627 8-shot .357mag that is just too sweet...I'm curious about the Dan Wessons, I keep seeing them around. But in general I'd get either a Colt Anaconda or a S&W 629.

I got two Model 29s and several rugers, and the Smiths are my favorites.

Have a Smith 29 and Ruger Super Blackhawk and Redhawk in .44 mag. Shoot them all regularly and don't have a negative thing to say about any of their performance, fit or function.
Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.
