Q about Steyr mags?

Can the Steyr M9 or M40 pistols use the high-cap mags from any other pistols?Or, are these pistols and mags so unique that no other mags will work, even with cutting new slots for the mag catch? Thanks all,Brisco

They will take a modified S&W Sigma mag with a new cut for the mag catch. I've looked at it and it will work. JudgeColt has actually done it and indicated that they work fine.

I have done it with only the .40, but I assume that the 9x19 will work as well. To get proof of concept, tape a Sigma magazine in your Steyr and try it. That is what I did, and it worked fine. I then cut the new latch holes and have been enjoying 15 rounds of .40 in my Steyr M40 ever since.
