model 12 stamp

Model twelve with a short barrel, 19" or about that, 6+1 round magazine. Has a stamped U.S. and a little symbol on the side of the recevier. The little symbol looks like one of the old smudge pots that you used to see on the side of the road, burning a small flame, before they came out with all these electric lights. ( a circle with a short fat wick with a flame extending from it.) Does anybody have any idea what this stamp represents? One person said Treasury dept, but he really didn't know for sure. Thanks, Sandman2234

Your little smudge pot is actually a flaming bomb symbol, the one-time-common U.S. Ordnance mark. Your Model 12 probably saw service as a military riot gun.

I've got one but it has been severely sporterized. Weaver choke, recoil pad, beavertail fore arm. I wish it was original. A lot of times in addition to the US and flaming bomb on the reciever they are also on the barrel. The barrel will probably be marked cyl. also designating choke. On the stock there could be an inspectors cartouche, mine is a WB in a box.If your gun is complete and not fooled with(original) it could be very collectable

First off, I don't own such a gun. It is owned by one of my Inlaws...(one that I would claim). He dragged it out of the gunsafe last night and showed it to me. Only thing wrong with is is the buttplate is chipped. Other than that... it is in great shape. Anybody know where I can pick up a good buttplate for the stock, let me know. Thanks, Sandman2234
