another buddy's wife wants to get him a rifle - the choices are pre 64 Winchester Mod 70 300 Mag or a brandy new mod with the Boss system. I would like the imput of the pro's to help in her decision. Thanks fer your time guys!

The BOSS system is currently only available on factory rifles from Browning (since 1999 I believe). However, some NIB Win Model 70's with the BOSS are still available if you know where to look.I'm assuming your buddy is going to use this rifle for a hunting rifle. The nice thing about the BOSS is you can dial it in for your particular load. The downside is it's really loud. The Model 70 is a great rifle. If it were me, I would probably choose brand new w/ BOSS over the pre-64 Win Model 70. Both are well-built rifles. It's just a personal preference. There are some other good choices out there, too.

I would have him buy the new rifle with the Boss system, then give me the number of the guy with the Pre 64 for sale.
    MONEY TALKS mine says good-bye

My hunting partner has the a-bolt with the boss in 300. I have seen head shots on whitetail at 325+ yds more times than I care to remember. The recoil is cut, and the gun is accurate. No contest, a-bolt BOSS hands down. Build a custom on the pre 64 action.

Browning / Winchester sells ($18.50 + shipping) their B.O.S.S device without the muzzlebrake option, but you have to call & specify whichcaliber & finish. 1.800.945.5237.My 300WinMag (W/ported BOSS) causes comments & dirty looks at the range so I inquired & am awaiting delivery of a non-ported unit.

If it were me I would go with the Pre 64. I like the classics.

I have the Browny A-Bolt in 300 mag, NO boss, the recoil is not bad. I reload, and have no problems with 1/2 groups at 100yds. But I like the classics also, I would get both!!!! But if I really had to pick just one, I would go with the Browny

If it were me I would want the pre-64, no ifs ands or buts.

IMHO there is no choice here. Its the same difference as driving a pre 64 Rolls Royce or driving a new Ford. You never regret buying quality. Go with the pre 64!
