I talked to SARCO INC. the other day and I asked them about the guns in question. They told me that they are being made in the Phillipines by a company called Twin (something or another)just wish I could remember the rest of the name. Originally, I thought they were being made by Armscor, but they are not. I'm still waiting to see one, but after learning this information, I'll stay with the Springfield Armory .45 . For the money you could get a loaded one in the 500 to 600 dollar range with everything on it and it's backed by their life time warranty program. Remember this; If the Rock Island Armory blows-up in your face like Bryco's tend to do, who are you going to sue? Moreover, is there even a warranty implied and who is backing it. Try calling the Dealers Warehouse and attempt to get a live body on the phone, cuz all you'll get is an answering machine stating this and that! BUY AMERICAN PRODUCTS America and don't be sucked -in by all the glitter. Most oversees products are JUNK! Especially, all the scopes being made in China! BSA scopes are made in China! It's just all a name being used to make money off unknowing, gullable americans.Hope this helps.

They are made by the same philipino company that make charles daily 1911's as far as I know, using old US equipment and original technics. Basically from what I understand the Rock Island 1911A1's are made to original specs having the original problems needing minor tuning.Overall, I'd say they are great guns, a great buy, nothing compared to modern 1911 type autos on the american market which are made using modern technology. If you get one, it will probably need some minor extractor tweaking, and will probably only shoot with ball ammo, but its a great base to start with, the metals are decent, and some of the small parts in the are original US GI surplus.
