Gun Safe Placement

Looking for opinions.....I am going to buy a gun safe, but I don't know where to put it. Anybody out there put one in their garage? I'm afraid the temperature changes and humidity would make the garage a bad place to put a safe. Would goldenrods or something similar be adequate to handle the temp/humidity problems? Also, it seems like putting the safe in my garage would make it too convenient for a thief to back up a pickup and take the entire thing, guns and all. My other option is to put it in my basement, but I don't know how the hell I get an 800-1000lb safe into the basement without killing myself, some innocent bystander, or the stairs. Help?

Most safes have bolt holes in the bottom so you can bolt them into the floor, making it tougher for someone to remove it from your garage. The gun store I brought my safe from said it is a good idea to have some kind of insulator between the cement floor and safe (plywood planks with an airspace) to prevent moisture from building up under the safe.Goldenrods can't hurt, I have one in my safe, have heard some people use a low watt lightbulb for the same effect.

If you place it in your basement put 2x4's under each step if you can access it, so the steps can handle the weight.

Relax- put the safe in the garage- better in the house. In the garage- keep them oiled once a month. In the house- oil them every 4 months. **But DO bolt the safe to the floor and walls. I love my guns so I put them in my office in a safe and I oil and check them every month. It's called my quality time! Then I reload my special rounds for each!!! They are the only babies I have left!!

A Zanotti? Where does one find one of those? I've never even heard of it. Unbolting into six pieces sounds fantastic.

Any legal people out there? A safe only slows up the bad guys, and if the crook gets caught in the garage I believe it's LOTS less serious for him than getting caught in the house. If you are forced to put it there, install some sort of audible alarm at the minimum.

I put my safe in the garage for 12 years and never had a problem with rust. I would have placed it in the house but I was afraid the floor would not support the weight of a loaded safe. Right now it is in my unheated shop. I originally got a goldenrod for it but never had to use it. I put a large plate under the safe to distribute the load over a larger area. Then I loaded up the bottom of the safe with a couple hundred pounds of lead and ammunition.Any safe is a visual deterent. Given enough time, any safe can be opened.Good Luck.

Kept gun safes in a humid garage over 25 years. Used Goldenrods. Never had any problems with rust. Had expensive guns in each safe. Stored ammo and bullets in safes for additional weight. Still have safes and guns.Store yours the same way. You should not have problems.Quit worrying--go fishing.

Closets are the worst place to put any thing in. There must be a lot of moisture in there because all my clothes shrunk and don't fit me anymore.
