Shotgun "Forager"?

The wife bought two old guns @ an auction. Thought they were "cute". She was told one was a Forager, circa Civil War. It's a 12 ga 32" BBL, about 3/4" dia. Overall is 50". I fired just a cap. Did not self-eject. Inscribed in flowing script on the side of the plate behind the hammer is (hard to read) "Mre Impale" (or o at end). Beneath that "de St. Etienne". Has thin metal butt plate held by one big screw. Found St Etienne(MAS) as a French Mfr Arms St.E)as making a post WW1 pistol. Date? Value? Any info=helps
