Sig 229/SigPro 2340/H&K Compact .40?!?!?!?!?

Well, after much more deliberation, and some more getting my hands on the guns (but, not actually getting to shoot them), I have once again narrowed down my choices to 3. The Sig 229, the SigPro 2340 (polymer frame), and the H&K Compact .40 (most expensive). I like them all, they all fit my hand well, and are all great brands. Any ideas, opinions, or just general comments about these guns, and the .40 over the .45? Also, could someone compare the recoil of a .45 to the .40. I have heard the .45 is more of a push, while the .40 is more of a snappy recoil? Thanks in advance.

The Sig P229 .40 is the standard sidearm of the US secret service, a good reliable choice. However the Sig-Pro would probably have been chosen instead if it had been out when they were taking bids for contracts. I love the HK USP, however it had alot less comfortable grip, and is more of a "Combat" type pistol. And I hear the compacts are wrist yankers.. Specially in a .40 or .45I personally would go with the SP 2340. Just hold one, and you'll probably agree.

I love my 229 in .40. It seems as though it just presses against my hand instead of flipping. I had a similar debate when I purchased mine... it's a hard call. I'm looking forward to buying an HK someday... but I'm extremely happy with the decision I made.christian

If you are not into tinkering with guns and just want a gun that works out of the box reliably and accurately everytime, get the HK or Sig 229. I don't think the polymer Sig has a good track record yet. If the Sig 229 is not entirely made in Germany, I would get the HK. Reliability and life time warranty made me buy a HK USP 40 over the other brands.
Resistance is futile in California, but I still refuse to be assimilated.

I have both the 2340 SigPRO & an HK USP .40 (full-size). I prefer the HK - for two reasons - over the Sig. They both are fine weapons however, in my opinion. I have had no problems with either; both are equally (very!) accurate, as long as I practice with both regularly.I have long fingers & wide hands & find the HK more comfortable to hold, but the operation of the Sig has been flawless for me after perhaps 3000 rounds of both factory & hand reloads of various load factors. I've found the Sig a bit more troublesome upon reassembly after field stripping for cleaning.

Well, after much consideration I finally decided on a gun. However, when I went to my local dealer, they couldn't get one. After searching online auctions I finally got one, and I picked it up on Valentine's day. I now own my first handgun, the Sig P229 40.

Excellent choice. I have a 228 in 9mm and a 229 in .40/.357 Sig. I wouldn't trade either for another brand. In fact, my wife and I just recently took the CHL class here in Texas and she used my 228 for qualifying. She liked the gun so much she took it from me. Now I have to say "we" own a 9mm and "I" own a .40/.357 Sig.

get the H&KTheir German craftsmanship is legendary. Plus the recoil in the H&K is hardly felt.i think in this case you'd be getting what you paid for.
