Does anybody know where to get a take down tool for a Savage 99A lever rifle? (Barrel is supposed to rotate 90 degrees for removal for easy transport)There are two notches in the sholder of the bbl collet for this.

I have never seen a tool always unscrewed barrel buy hand. all my takedowns have one little slit in bottom of barrel for an allianment guide so the for arm will go on

Thanks Jar, As far as you know, do all the old take-downs work like this? What sort of tool do you use to break it loose? I don't remember seeing flats on the sholder that would accomodate a larger box wrench.D

The last time I pulled a Savage apart the forend moved forward abou 1 1/2" and a slit on the forend fit the barrel lug. from there it was a twist away. Might give a look at the underside of the forend again.
