taurus 9mm

my cousin recently bought a used (nearly new)taurus mod. 92 (i think) w/17-round mags.it jams nearly every shot.anyone else ever have this problem or know a cure for it? thanks barto

    No one can really tell you without looking at the gun. Taurus has a lifetime guarantee so contact them & send back for inspection & repair by professionals. Its much easier than messing around with it then you wind up sending it to them anyway. Good luck RG.By the way I bought one new once that was missing the extracter spring & it jammed every other shot.     Considering I have not seen your gun, I will go after the obvious.. the 17rd mag. That is definitely not factory. Find a factory mag (10rd or 15 rd) and see if that fixes the problem. Taurus pistols (I have the 99af) are noted for their reliablity. I have owned two over the years and with the exception of cheap ammo ( Wolf, Silver Bear) they never jam. Good luck.

    I don't think that Taurus makes a factory 17 round mag, he must have after-markets. This may be the problem, try some factory mags.

    I've herd of some hollow points jamming in Taures 92AFS, although I've never had that problem with mine. Try FMJ. If its a really old Taures, Iv'e heard that they were manufactured by a different company, and are crap. Not sure how long ago though, maybe back in the 80's or so. This is all hear say though.

    What S.A.remark ?In shooting a semi auto handgun, a firm hold will do a lot to avoid jamming. What happens is that the frame moves back with the slide unless the frame is firmly restrained by the shooter.Failure to hold properly is called "limp wristing"
