Semi Auto?

Guys,I would really appreciate some help. I recently got a contract with a local city to patrol their public housing complexes (3). I have always been a revolver man and have carried a 3" Model 65 S&W for years. I am comfortable and very compatent with it. The other night I went through some intense night (low light level) training, and for the first time I felt very vulnerable with my revolver. A frient let me use his Smith SW40G with front night sight, for one of the exercises and I could not believe the difference. Now I am thinking of getting a semi Auto with night sights. I can't really afford a Glock, Sig, or H&K at this juncture in my life. Any suggestions on a good, reliable fairly priced .40. I was looking at the SW40G and the Springfield XD40. What about a Ruger? I would appreciate any suggestions.

    I own a Ruger p95 9mm and I have shot over 1000 rounds thru it with out a jam. I shoot tighter groups than my buddies glock and my other buddies Walthers. My Ruger cost me $289 about half of the price of theirs. If you want accuracy, reliability, and strength at a reasonable price Ruger is a good choice. But then again it's all in how much you want to spend.

    Yeah, the Rugers are great guns. I have a P89 9mm with over 5k rounds through and not one jam. Extremely reliable. The only drawback some people have is with the balance, but a $15 set of hogue grips cured that for me. If you are dealing with low light scenarios, the Ruger still won't be that cheap. You're looking at $350 for the gun, $85 minimum for night sights with installation, plus $15 grips. That's $450, everything brand new.Dont' rule out the Glocks or the Sigs, however. I bought a perfectly good used Glock 22 in 40 S&W on GB for $350, Including night sights. I've seen (although RARELY) a SigPro 2340 for $370, NIB. D***! Wisht I had bought it....By the way, with the Glocks it's nice knowing you have 15+1 of 40 S&W on hand.

    Just another note there are 30 round clips available for the Ruger, but it's kinda tough to conceal the weapon, with that baby hanging out!!! L.O.L.

    I have had a ruger P94 for a couple of years now and love it. Never had a problem with it after 2K rnds. Some people dont like the feel of it, but it fits my hand great.

    another good thing about Ruger's is that in circumstances you run out of ammo, it becomes a non-aerodynamic projectile quite easily....considering its weight,i'd hate to get hit by a ruger .Seriously though, they are extremely good firarms. -smooth

    Dear Mcneely,You may want to look at the P-90 Ruger (several models available). Not easy to conceal but darn accurate and reliable in my opinion. I can hold my own with much more experienced shooters at the range and they use far more expensive guns. I was truely surprized. In over 2,000 rounds of good to economy ammo no FTF or any other problems. Put some good night sights on it, a couple of extra 8 round clips and patrol away. Just can't beat a reliable .45 for close encounters. You will probably want the Houge wrap around grips also. New everything around $400.00 or so. LOL
