You will get max velocity with the 26", .223if you dont mind the extra weight.

I don't think it would be, I honestly would just get a 20" barrel. It should be sufficient for the range of the .223rem.

Just to make a compareson, I have an AUG (which is also .223) and 3 different barrells, 16" 20" & 24"; using the same ammo with all 3 the 16 & 20 impact with in 3" of each other while the 24" is about 14" higher ... 2" additional length probably won't make that much difference but it will pobably depend more on your choice of ammo or powder if you reload ...

Generally, and this is not specific to .223, but to most centerfires, each inch added to, or subtracted from barrel length changes the velocity of the bullet by about 50 fps. Thus between the 24" and 26" barrels you would get about 100 fps difference. If you are not doing a lot of carrying, go with the longer barrel, if you are in fact toting the rifle around a lot go with the 24". The 20" barrel will cost you 200-300 fps in velocity.

Thanks to everone for your input, as I made my decision to go with a 26" I also went back to my original choice of cal. Which was a 22-250, that now has a spot in my gun safe.Thaks again for the info.Richard
