Wanted to know what anyone thought about the shepherd scopes that has used them. Was the rangefinding very accurate? Overall opinion of the scope? Thanks for the help

Great for fast aquisition and ranging, but definitely not a target scope. Good hunting tool for long ranges, the 18" circle model is good for field shots on the average whitetail, The top of it's back to the lowest part of the briskut is approx. 18". Find the right circle and pull the trigger.

bright clear opticsI'm happy with mine.I do recogmend that you chronograph your rifle/load combination as there 'book' recogmendations are based on factory loads (I use balistic tip handloads, which change the trajectory/aim point profile)Their is a Shepherd dealer that posts here, and the people at Shepherd are very helpful on the phone alsoBob

I prefer mildots but under 500 yds the Sheps are OK and if shooting farther at game you need your head split with a MonsterMaul.cpermd

I will disagree with the 500yd thing. IF you are proficient at distance, and using a caliber with enough power to kill at 500+ then go for it. But, don't practice on animals, practice on paper, that's the ethical way to do it. I have seen many deer fall at 700 and 800 yds at the hand of my buddy who is ex USMC sniper. With a 270 no less. But that is only because of his proficiency at placing bullets. The shepards are putting all 20 rnds in center mass of a person sized target at 700yds from an M21, at least for us they are. Nuff said. They are not target scopes, they are killing scopes, there is a difference! Don't expect benchrest results from a people popping scope. That was their original intention.

I agree with you JustC. Enough practice and the right kind of equipment you can kill past 500 yards. Also, it does get old posting questions and having people say you can only kill at such and such a distance. Most of them have never practiced out that far and have no real idea if it is possible. They probably took or have seen someone take a longer than usual shot at a deer with no practice at that distance. Then they claim it can't be done when they missed or wounded the deer. Maybe the people that should get hit over the head or the ones that talk about something they really no nothing about.
