tipping guides

I'm going on my first guided hunt soon and wondered if someone could fill me in on the customary tip for the guide? I've been looking forward to this for a while and don't want to look like the hick that I am.

    WHERE ARE YOU GOING?? IS SOMETHING HARD TO GET IN THIS AREA? MAYBE THERE IS SOMETHING YOU COULD BRING ALONG THAT IS HARD TO GET. THIS ALSO SHOULD BE TEMPERED BY THE OUTCOME OF THE HUNT.

    I've tipped 50-100 for a good successful one day Antelope or Muley hunt....have heard of gifts (ie: Knives, Binocs, Ammo, guns, etc). Sort of depends on the expense of the hunt, a $30,000 Safari to Africa might warrant leaving a rifle in exchange for a superb hunt, a $200 hunt could mean a nice meal. Might want to look at a gift certificate to Cabela's.....

    Your hunt should be as fun as can be, without worrying about tipping your guide. If your hunt is successful and you are happy with your guide and all goes well, a $50.00 tip should please your guide.

    I usually tip $50.00 to $100.00 depending on the outcome of the hunt. If it's a several day hunt will adjust accordingly. Last year for my Bighorn, (five days), with a trophy was happy to hand out $500.00.

    Like the suggestion of a Cabela's gift certificate.

    i usually hunt with my uncle and he buys me lunch, lol. i'll take you hunting in wisconsin if you wanna tip me a gun, or something,lol. cody

    I tend to disagree with Saxon on this one, which is rare. The guy that cuts my hair has no trouble accepting a tip.

    If you are going to be guided by someone other than the owner, I suggest you contact the owner and ask what sort of gratuity is customary.

    Several years ago I saw a mag article that indicated $50-$100 was typical, and a bonus per point added for serious trophies (ie. B & C)
