"Range Ammo" problems with SKS

Question guys, took the SKS to the indoor range and you have to buy their ammo as to not dammage the back wall. After firing the SKS did not eject the spent cartrige as it shoud so I had to manually pull the slide back in order to chamber the next round. If I recall correctly the gas valve should be in the position nearest the bottom as it was. Could this problem have just been the less powerrfull ammo not being powerfull enough to push the slide back?

Thanks
Todd

That would be my guess, less powerful so as not to do damage to the backstop.

Yes but could the less powerfull round make it to where spent rounds are not ejected?

I would blame the ammo as it sounds like this is your problem. The slides on the SKS seem to me to be pretty tight therefore it takes a full powered load to cycle it.

    Good Luck.

you are correct Maximaking, as is rugster. The heavy action on an SKS needs a healthy shove which is created by the flow of gasses through the gas tube, which in turn actuates the piston, which gives the bolt a shove in the rearward direction. If you have a downcharged load, you have less gas pressure due to less propellant being ignited, this lack of gas pressure causes the piston to be forced against the bolt with far less pressure, and therefore, I would bet that if you saw it in slow motion the bolt would move only a portion of the way rearward, (if at all) and would therefore, reinsert the empty cartridge back into the chamber due to the fact that it was never really pulled free of the chamber.
