M1 Carbine Sight look crooked...

I was peeking thru a sight on an M1 Carbine today. It appeared as thought the front sight was a few degree's off. I was told that it was the upper handguard giving it that illusion because it was an uneven plane to look down on that particular rifle.
What do you guys think?

If it still looks "off", the problem is most likely that the barrel was not correctly indexed to the receiver. This will require a trip to the armorer, since either the receiver threads are damaged, or the barrel is defective.
You didn't indicate the maker of the receiver or barrel, or if the carbine was assembled by an arsenal or in someone's basement. There are many defective commercial or USGI-reject barrels out there.
