Set Trigger on Colt Lightning .22 Rifle??

I have aquired a Colt .22 Cal Magazine Rifle Mfd. in 1898 I bought it as a parts gun. While disassembling I noticed the hammer was different then most I have seen, It has a long pin, threaded at the top, that runs down through the top of the hammer and comes out at the second (full cock)trigger notch . There is a fly fitted into a recess in the side of the hammer It pivits on the hammer pin . The trigger is a normal stock trigger. It is adjusted by turning the slotted pin in or out. Any clues??
Thanks..Jack

What you describe is an adjustable trigger where sear engagement depth adjustment is accomplished by turning the screw. The fly is there to prevent the trigger sear from dropping into the half cock notch when the hammer falls and breaking the notch and/or trigger sear.
A set trigger mechanism would have a secondary hammer, spring and sear in addition to the fly.

Colt produced only a few of the Lightning rifles with an adjustable trigger. The only ones I've seen have been large-frames and I have a .40-60 with that feature.

On a small frame, I imagine it would be even rarer.

Thanks for the much needed information!!
I had taken apart a lot of the .22's and had not ran into this set up. Oddly enough Gun Parts Catalog pictures this hammer(with fly )in the parts section for The Colt Rim fire Lightning Rifle.
    Thanks again, Jack
