Pre-ban?? GLock?

I am currently looking for a GLock model 20 and i recently seen some ads about pre-ban glocks. I thought i knew what pre ban meant but i think my idea of pre ban isn't right. Okay here is my question: Is a pre ban handgun modified for taking in a high round magazine? Or is it the magazine that is different, or is it BOTH? If i purchase a new Glock 20 and i want to put in a pre ban magazine, will it work? Or are the preban glocks totally different than the ones made after '95? And lastly, would you prefer a pre ban glock against a new one?? Thanks!

    No such thing as pre-ban Glocks. There are only pre-ban magazines.

    ANY Glock 20 mag will fit ANY glock 20.

    My gun is prettier than yours, and it's a Glock!

    The only difference I can think of between the older and newer glocks, (Not pre-post ban, no such thing) is that the new glocks have a rail on the dust guard for mounting a light or tactical accessorie, and the old "slick-grip" glocks dont.

    I've also seen some glocks that were "re-manufactured" where they have the new grip style, but not rail on the dust guard. But I don't know what the real story is behind their re-manufacture, thats just what the add said.

    Glock refers to their guns as "generation." Right now I believe they are still on third generation. Some may disagree but I would prefer the most recent generation as the changes are more favorable to the shooter. Some of the preban magazines may be weaker than the present ones, as the newest magazine has been reinforced with a metal tube to prevent expansion from the pressure of a fully loaded mag. I forget the date this was done, but it was recently. I will check my manual at work today and report back if no one else does.

    The only thing different between an 80s glock and a brand new one is the equipment rails on the dust cover,and the finger grooves which In my oponion makes the 10mm more easily controlled under rapid fire. Its the magazines that have been changed, any preban HI Cap mag will work in a new Glock that came with 10 rd mags. By the way the 10mm is a good choice I have easily taken deer with mine at short range. The 10mm is very close to the .41 mag power wise.

    Dear Rugerster, I returned my G-17 (1989 model) about 10 years ago to have some parts replaced by Glock at no charge. This was to update to a safer accidental discharge mode. It was a factory done deal, they sent the original parts back. I think it was due to being more P/C than necessary, but the new ones have this upgrade now. Best, Robert

    "Endurance" Corrected to Glock, mistaken for when I replaced the safty action on my Ruger "old" .22 single action six.

    Wow, I didn't know Ruger made Glock 17's...
