I've seen them in all sorts of types on pistols.
But my question is, can you get them mounted on rifles? If so, how practically effective are they?

As far as any practical purpose, if you know how to shoot, I don't think you'd need one...IMHO They make a good intemidator. But your trajectory doesn't go straight like the laser. Not only that, I think it may be hard to see in daytime at a distance.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
If I could make it laser pinpoint accurate at 100 yards I'd be thrilled. I doubt it's in the cards, but I figure it couldnt hurt to try.
I got it zeroed in at 25m and it was kinda fun. You could shoot aim from the hip using the laser and pop off rounds. Again, more novelty than practical.
I have one I'm thinking of trying on a 9mm carbine. I have an insert for a scope ring so it will hold the laser. If I ever get time to play with it, I'll let you know how it works.

They dissappear in daylight and are practically worthless. A much
more powerful laser would be necessary to see in daylight. Others I have spoken to agree.
They do have one extremely good use though. If you have to change a scope or mount a scope on a rifle.
Mount the laser with a barrel mount carefully.
Line it up "perfectly" with your zeroed scope or open sights at a specific point in the house from a specific point in the house.
I mean perfectly.
Then add or change scopes or whatever you want. Use the dot to line
up the new sighting system "perfectly" and you can put it within an inch or two at 100 yds.
saves a bunch of money and hassel.
Only problem is you can't jostle the rifle around or the laser will
lose its' position. It has to be handled very gently during the process. I let my bolt slam shut once and it screwed it all up. Threw it off by inches. Live and learn.
I do this all the time now. Its' the only way to fly. I can swap scopes around with ease.
