Compensated handguns in CA?

Hi,
I recently moved to California (bay area) from Illinois and am wondering whether my Glock 19C is legal here. I know I will have to register it (it's still in Illinois but I'd like to bring it back next time I visit), but a friend mentioned once that they thought ported handguns aren't permitted in the state. I've called a few places and nobody has an answer for me, but I don't want to attempt to register it or bring it here until I know for sure. I'd appreciate any help you could give!

Thanks,
Kate

Come back to Illinois. My Dad lives in the People's Republic of Kalifornia and I love the state, but those gun laws are whacked. The gun laws here in Illinois are still in need of concealed carry, so we can't brag. Yet...

The gun laws in CA are nearly incomprehensible, but it probably makes a difference if the port is integral to the slide and barrel, or an add-on piece that more resembles a silencer. Ask an attorney if you have any questions.

Porting is not a problem. What could cause a problem would be if a company makes a version that is ported & the same gun that is not ported. Any change in the gun means that it has to be seperately tested & listed. If your model is on the Dept. of Justice list there is no problem. I think but am not sure that people moving here can bring in guns not on the list as long as they are not on the banned list

Your model 19C is on the approved list. Some of the Bay area cities may also have restrictive rules. Go to http://www.nramemberscouncils.com/ for more information. Since you are moving to CA, you should also join your local Members Council and help try to make a difference. There are several ACTIVE Councils in the Bay area.

Yes, your gun is O.K. to bring into Cal. The problem your friend might have been refering to has to do with "flash hiders" on rifles, which does not apply to pistols. Flash hiders are one of the "Evil characteristics" the law making morons in Sacramento say are banned on rifles, along with pistol grips, folding stocks etc.
