I'm looking to put a new parts kit on my pre-ban ar,and I'm trying to find out whether or not to put the 11 1/2 inch barrel with the 5.5 inch flash hider.I know when I used a Y-comp muzzle break with a 16 inch barrel on my post ban the noise was unbearable.Even with ear protection.Does anyone know if the noise from the 11.5 inch barrel is going to be louder than my post ban with the 16 inch barrel?

I don't know about the niose, but from what I understand, if you put an 11 1/2" barrel the muzzle attachment that makes it legal 16" has to be permanently attached, meaning welded or silversoldiered.

    I could be wrong though.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

No,you're right. You can put an 11.5 inch barrel on a rifle as long as the overall barrel length comes to at least sixteen inches with the break or supressor attached. And the break or suppressor has to be permanetly attached.

I had the 11.5 with the suppressor and it was ok. Didn't notice any difference between it or the standard length barrel.
