CA legal AR receiver

We in CA should be jumping for joy (lol) because there is a new CA legal receiver available (www.redstarmuseum) that seems to be a heck of a lot better than the single-shot piece of crap that's been available for a while now. It's got a fixed 10-rounder. Each time you load, the rifle must be hinged open. Rounds are placed directly into the magazine.

Here's my question. Never having shot or even held an AR-type rifle, is this simple to do? As simple as breaking open a FAL for example? The guy at Red Star said that there is a pin that must be taken out to perform this. Doesn't sound easy to me. Here's a long shot. Anyone ever shot an AR with this kind of receiver?
