Getting disappointed in this EXPERT forum.........

Today,I posted a question re S&W ser#s (a short time ago); no replies. I posted again on another site and had an answer in 6 minutes. BIG DEAL! you say? Maybe, maybe not. But take a look at the ratio of 'read' to 'replies' on this forum. 85:3? 22:0?..............
And- remember- 'replies' don't always provide an ANSWER. Doesn't take me all day to figure out where to go to get answers. Here; maybe as a last resort......who knows. IMHO, of course.

Are you blaming the forum or the experts? You could have bought the book which is what most of the people answering questions have done at some point. Sorry you are disappointed, but you will go where you are most comfortable anyway.

On behalf of all the other members of this forum, I'd like to apologize for our shortcomings. Many of us don't have time to read the forum daily. Others lack the reference books needed to answer some technical questions. Most of us do the best that we can; when we don't know an answer or where to find an answer, we usually just don't reply. I'm sorry, there's just nothing more that we can do.

Good luck at your new forum.

Like Pig said, it's a hit and miss as far as response time goes.
If a particular expert is on-line when you post a particular question, you'll get an answer as fast as the guy can type it.
    Take it easy!!! GD

I have found that most of experts here are great at helping people out when in need. Answers are usually very helpful and make sense. Also if they dont know they'll tell ya where to go to find it your self. Best part is that the guys dont answer if they dont know, which to me is better that guessing and giving the wrong info. GET A LIFE.....

Some threads in any group will not get an answer quickly if at all. No one gets paid for this and we all aren't "experts" in all things. Considering all I have learned on newsgroups over the last couple of years, I sure haven't a complaint. Patience, please, if you please.

I could not resist adding this. In my oponion this is one of the best sites to come to for firearms related information. You say the read to answer ratio is very low. Well maybe the ones who read it was trying to help but didnt have the information you requested. I am sure there are people that visit this site that can, but it was a matter of timing. I would much rather have someone read with intent to help but couldnt and pass on by. Than have someone shoot you a line that they know nothing about. I would think about it before I washed my hands clean of this sight. These guys are very knowledgeable.

One right answere is better than 6 wrong ones. Getting the best answere may sometimes take time.

brodie, I see that you only have 13 posts on this site. Haven't exactly been here very long, have you? Do you think people live on this site to serve you? Most of us have other lives and stop by periodically. I have learned more from this site than any other. Even if you don't ask a specific question, one can learn a lot just by reading other posts and answers. So, if you have time to figure out response ratios to questions asked, what do you do in your real life? Have fun on the other site!

Perhaps we should put our heads together and come up with an on call
schedule so this never happens again....

I've spent time on other forums and have found that responses sometimes came quite quickly. The reason is that these were model-specific forums, dealing with one particular type of gun. I once posted a Makarov question here and got three or four responses. I posted the same message on the Makarov.com forum and got ten. Doesn't take a genius to understand why this is. It certainly isn't that people aren't willing to help.

No where else, however, will you find a more active forum than GB for general questions about all kinds of firearms, accessories, whatever you want to know. For more specific questions, or if I happen to not get a response here on GB, I'll post on a more specific site. Usually, I get all the answers I need right here.

Being somewhat of a gun novice, I appreciate the time and effort all of the loyal contributors to this board bring. The advice I've gotten has literally saved me hundreds of dollars in money I couldn't thrown away on low quality weapons, or expensive gunsmiths. Also, the conduct of board contributors is normally very professional, polite and civil.

This is one of the reasons a guy like Brodie really sticks out. People don't act like him around here. Thank God!

Sincere thanks to you and GB.

ALRIGHT You Guys...! Back off and let it be..! The Man felt that he had to say something, and now that He's had HIS SAY......Probably had a specific reason for an answer and needed a quick response and I/We let Him down...Lets all be big about this and Welcome him to the Forums and try to do better in the future...!
