I just bought a jc higgins model 20 and was wondering when it was made, what kind of reputation it has and an estamate on its value.it is manufactured by hi-standard and it has been fired less than 50 times and is in exelent condition.i heard that it came with three types of choke fittings, but i only got one with it. there is a number on it after the words "SEARS,ROEBUCK AND CO." that is 583,56 If there is anyone out there that can share some info,i would really apreceate it. I also have a 8mm.turk mousser, and it drops a deer every time.

If your having a bad day, just go out and kill something and you"ll fell much better.

    Gunpower,
I have one also, with the vent rib and the choke. I also have only one tube. I don't know right off where to get them, if they are avilable. I never bothered to try to get any myself. You could try e-gunparts.com. It's a damn good gun for the money. At least it's made of all steel. Maybe I'll take mine out and shoot it one of these days, now that you mentioned it. I'm going to say it should be worth at least 175 to 200 bucks for a real good one.

I also have a JC HIGGINS mdl 20, they were made by HIGH STANDARD Original mdl 200, sold by sears, made in the 60,s about 165.00 for a nice one, 200,00 for an super nice one. the one I have has lost most of the original finish, so value would be around 125.00

    gunpower,
Funny that we got started about these model 20's.
I just bought one today in excellent condition, and it's complete with 3 tubes. If I run across any at a gun show, I'll buy them and let you know somehow. Gave the guy 150 bucks for it. Hell of a deal.

There is an article about the Model 20 in the 2001 Gun Digest. Tells quite a lot about the gun and Sears. The choke unit was made by Pachmayr and there were three chokes, short range (imp. cyl.), medium range (modified) and long range (full). Might run an ad in the wish list and look at gun shows, I doubt if Pachmayr has any at this late date.
