Problem with Sig P245 handgun

I bought a new Sig Sauer P245 (.45 cal) handgun a little over a year ago and have fired less than 500 rounds through it. I'm having a problem with rounds not feeding into the chamber properly and jamming the gun. It happens about once every 3-4 mags, and has been occurring since I first bought the gun. I thought the problem would eventually go away after I "broke the gun in", but it hasn't. I've tried various ammo manufacturers, +P and non +P, as well as round nose FMJ and hollow point ammo. The jamming has occurred with all of the above. Any suggestions?

You wern't very helpful in describing the jam - is it stove piping?
    failing to feed and hanging?

I would suggest having another seasoned shooter try it out to rule out a shooter induced problem such as not keeping a tight grip on the pistol. If that second person has the same problem, I would send it back to Sig. They very rarely ever have a problem with their handguns and they will make it right.

Other than something not being set right, is the feed ramp smooth and clean? This is not typical SIG performance even out of the box. (Triggers smooth on SIG guns over time--you should not be having feed issues.) Maybe nunn can advise on this. I'd have sent the gun back the first week out.

Let me provide some additional info and see if it helps narrow down the problem:

The problem is not "stove piping". The round gets stuck halfway up the feeding ramp and therefore never makes it all the way into the chamber of the barrel.

I have had another shooter (one far better than myself who shoots competitions and also owns a P245 that he has never had this problem with) shoot my gun and the jamming still occurred.

The gun is very clean. I clean/lube it after every time I shoot it.

I would have sent the gun back the first time it jammed like this (which was within the first 6 rounds I ever shot out of this gun), but I thought the gun just needed to be "broken in".

I also own a Sig P226 (9mm) and have never experienced any problems with it. Plus I have shot it a LOT more than my P245.

This is not typical of a Sig to have any feeding problems right out of the box. If the gun is doing this with one certain mag, that could be the problem. however it sounds like its doing this with all your mags. I would about bet that the feed ramp needs re-polishing. I would send it to Sig and have it fixed. I know its hard to part with, but Sig will fix the problem rather quickly. You dont want to stake your life on it Im sure.

    Good Luck.

Send it in then. It's definitely not normal.

I have two factory mags for this gun, but I've done all my shooting from only one of them so far. Could the problem stem from a bad mag? The mag is brand new and came with the gun. Is there anything I should check on the mag? It looks fine.

Possibly. I have one 10 rd factory SIG mag for my P226 that works ok, but has an uncharacteristic rattle--I just won't use it for that reason alone.

I'd definitely try the other mag--leave the other marked as possibly defective in a plastic bag. If you can shoot a couple of boxes without any issue, you might consider looking to see if some visible defect(small dent or burr) or a defective component (spring and/or follower) is causing the problem from mag number one. I presume you've field stripped and cleaned the used mag itself in the course of your cleaning?

    NEW INFORMATION:

I took another look at the magazine that I've been using and compared it to the magazine that I haven't used yet. I noticed that the top corner (the corner underneath the nose of the top bullet when the magazine is loaded) of the used magazine is slightly bent in. It appears that this was caused by the magazine release inside the magazine well. In fact, when I try to insert the unused magazine into the magazine well, it gets stuck on the magazine release. I'm sure I could force it in, but I don't want to "damage" another magazine if that is what's causing my jams.

    Is this normal?

The first thing I would check would be if the mag is properly seated in the the frame. Make shure the mag locks into place. If this does not solve the problem try taking the mag completely apart wipe the spring down, put some break free on the spring, and make sure the spring and mag follower are properly back in place. If this does not fix the problem then send it back to Sig. Their customer service dept. is great and their gunsmiths will fix the problem.
Mballiai, the rattle you hear is completely normal with almost all ten round mags from Sauer or Mec-Gar(producors of mags for Sig). This will happen with almost any factory Sig mag.
