Barrel length for a 308 rifle

I have a Savage 10FP in .308 and I am really happy with it. It has a 24" heavy barrel. I see that Savage also makes the 10FP with a 20" heavy barrel. How much velocity would I lose out of the 4" shorter tube? Would there also be a substantial increase in noise and muzzle blast with the shorter barrel? What about accuracy? Would accuracy be diminished if I were to go with the 20" barreled rifle?
Thanks for any input!

You would loose approximatly 200 fps of velocity. Likely you would not notice any difference in muzzle blast. That is a significant loss of velocity for some things, but a deer is unlikely to notice the difference inside 250 yards or so.

I have a Remington Model 7 .308 with a 18 1/2 inch barrel and it shoots great. I have downed everything here in the Northeast from bear to deer and coyotes.
