You are correct the Saiga's are based on the AK design. They first made the Saiga in 7.62x39. The first of the shotguns was in .410. That was followed by the 12ga and the 20ga. I've handled the .410 and the 12ga, but not the 20ga. My gunsmith customized his .410 with a different trigger group and a thumbhole stock. Now it looks more like a MAK90. He loves they way it handles. Thus far they have proven to be very reliable just like the AK they are taken from. I recently got some of the all steel casing .410 ammo for the Saiga .410. It is a chromed steel full length casing and specifically says that it is made for the Saiga. The 4 round mags are reasonably available, but the 10 round ones are very hard to find. The larger than 4-5 round mags for the 12ga and the 20ga are, for whatever reason, resticted, I don't know why. The .410 10rd mag has been available, but I haven't had any of those in 2 years. I've only got the 4rd ones available currently. LRARMSX@MCHSI.COM

I shot the U.S.P.S.A. nationals a couple weeks ago, and there was a guy on my squad shooting the saiga 12ga. It seemed to be very reliable, but he had to hold the bolt back each time he switched mags. He had about 10 of the 5rd mags and said they were not very expensive. I did'nt ask where he bought it or the mags.
One of the reasons these shotguns are reliable is the same reason the AK is reliable. They are built to looser tolerances than the American M-16 for example, so they can shoot when full of dirt, but loose accuracy.
