Ruger mini muzzle brakes

I have a Mini-30 muzzle brake and decided not to use it. I am considering trading it for a Mini-14 and wonder if the same muzzle brake would work on it? It looks the same, although the bore is of course different. It attaches on the front sight where the pin attaches the sight to the barrel.
Thanks.

We came across this very thing at the gun shop. I would of thought they were the same. A gentlemen came in to buy a Mini-30, well he was going to buy the mini-14 until he seen Ruger had desighned them where they will no longer take high capacity magazines, so he chose the mini-30 as Ruger never made factory HI Caps for them, they were all aftermarket made mags. So they didnt narrow the magazine well on it. So the customer decided to buy the Mini-30 and wanted a muzzle break for it. The shop had some Mini-14 muzzle breaks, we took one out of the package and tried to slip it on, it would not began to slide on. But I told the customer they were many places he could order one from. And he seemed happy with his new toy. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, but you just raised another question. I have two John Mason 30 round mags, and now wonder if they will fit the newer Mini-14's?
Maybe I should look for an older gun?

As far as the muzzlebreak goes, unless it was manufacture to fit both then it won't, and I don't know if there even is such. But I could easily be wrong.

As far as the magazine goes, not sure but fairly positive that they aren't interchagable. I believe that the feed lips will be open to wide on a mini-30 magazine to retain .223rem rounds, and the follower will probably be different too. One thing that leads me to believe this is that I see mini-14 and mini-30 magazines sold seperately from eachother. Same with mini-30 and mini-14 muzzlebreaks.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I may be reading his post wrong, but I think the last question asked by Landis was whether his older John Mason 30 round (5.56mm) magazine will fit into the new, and more narrow, Mini 14 mag well; not whether a Mini 30 mag is interchangable with a Mini 14 mag. If, indeed, that was the question, I have nothing to add about the newer Mini 14s, as I have not seen one. Concerning the interchangeability of the Mini 30 and Mini 14 mags, I am no expert, but I do have both rifles, and can tell you that the mags are NOT interchangeable. The Mini 30, which of course is chambered for the 7.62 x 39 round, has a wider mag because the cartridge is wider (and the Rifle's mag well is correspondingly wider). The Mini 30 mag also has the familiar bananna-like curve - to accommodate the more tapered cases of the 7.62 rounds. The 5.56 (or .223 cal.) round will not feed properly from a Mini 30 mag, and the 7.62mm (or .30 cal.) round will not feed from, or fit, in a Mini 14 mag. I hope the foregoing is helpful, and doesn't just add confusion to the issue.

Simply put, if you want to use high cap mags, you should get yourself a good deal on an older one off of the GB auction and save some $$$. the newer designed ones will not accept the mag (I am operating from the info which was provided by a member who called Ruger and asked). Therefore, get an older one and use your mags.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

I know the mags between the mini30 and mini14 are different. NOT interchangable. I was wondering about the muzzlebrake? They fit around the front sight, and may be the same. I was also wondering about the NEW mini14 mags when that was brought up in a reply. It seems Ruger might be up to some sort of political correctness here if they have new rifles incapable of hi cap mags. Bad move by Ruger, nice guns but they of all people should be standing up for gun rights.
    Am I wrong?????

The berrels are not the same size so you can not swap the brakes between the two.
