Century Arms FAL

I just purchased a Century Arms R1A1 FAL rifle. My question has to do with the adjustible gas port- Is there a good starting adjustment or should you start out fully closed and go from there for the load I'll be using, which will be a military loaded .308? Will this adjustment tame the recoil and help to reduce wear to the gun by using only the amount of gas needed to work the action properly without over- powering it? Any comments or ideas? Thanks

Anyone have any input on the Century Arms FAL? I found one at a gun shop that I like, but I know very little about them. Pros? Cons? Indifferent? How well do these shoot, are they another POS, and how accurate are they?

Are the ones being sold right now metric or inch pattern? Also do they make their own recievers or does someone else?

Not sure about the FAL, but here's some FYI...

I have heard from others on this board as well as personal experience that the finish is not always very good on Century Arms. I bought a Romanian SAR-1... Works flawlessly, great gun, but the furniture looks awful.

Their function in my exp is just fine, but the finish might not be up to par.

My gun is prettier than yours, and it's a Glock!

I've been thnking about getting a representitive of the FAL family as they are a signifant 20th century weapon; so I've looked at a few of the Century FAL's at shows recently and they looked good. I had an FN FAL a few years back and didn't really care for the way it fit, but at the time I was more into AR's.

One nice thing about the Century is that its receiver is US made (therefore a US weapon), so you dont have to worry about the legal parts count and replace the stock or whatever without worry. Another is the price (around $400 is what I've been seeing here) I don't think most individuals can build one as nice as the ones I've seen. Most of the Century firearms I've seen and heard about (except their Cetme) has been negitive, so I would appreicate some input from owners on these as well.

    I have 2 Century FAL.
One is an Imbel rec with mainly R1 parts
    I love it.
The other has the US rec and L1 parts.
    I just like Imbels.
I have 3 recs and kits and will start one on Sun.
If you can pick it up and check it and break it down then a Century can be a good buy.
I would sure hate to order one sight unseen.

I have a Century L1A1 with an Imbel receiver. I have found it to be very servicable and quite accurate. Only problem I ever had was when I put an aftermarket dustcover scope mount on it. Apparently there was not enough clearance for the bolt to cycle properly. I tell you what though... that barrel sure gets hot! I still have a burn scar on my arm after accidentally brushing up against the barrel I had just put 20 rounds through.

No matter where you go, there you are.

Go to L1a1.com and you can see all kinds of feedback on the Century gun. I had one and was not satisfied, It was like having a bondo queen cheap crappy paint job 55 t-bird that runs like crap. They are primo rifles, save up and buy one that does their reputation justice.

Century guns are a real crap shoot. If you got a good one you got a good one. If you got a bad one sell it to someone you don't like and try again. They have very spotty quality control on a good day.

Just bought one myself, well used for a good price, shot some rounds through it, not the most accurate but was real fun to shoot.

I got my SAR-1 through AIM Surplus and they got it from Century. The furniture was fantastic on mine, much to my surprise.

    Maybe AIM did some repairs?
