Sent my model 65 to Taurus, after 20 years of little use the frame cracked. I figured the lifetime guarantee would cover me>WRONG!!! Said it was imported by another company. They have offered to sell me a model 2-650041 for only 230 bucks. I can't find this model listed, can anyone give me some info on this pistol. What do you think of this BIG DEAL they are offering me? Should I just get my old pistol back and forget it? I kinda feel ripped off already and would not like it to happen again. What would you do?

I too own a Taurus revolver and this scares the bejx!@$s out of me!@!!

What a great "weasel word statement" it must be an attorney that wrote that response. You do know that the labs are using attourneys for experimentation!!- there are some things that rats will not do.

Seriously, why should it matter which company imported the weapon? It was manufactured by Forjas Taurus S. A. Avenida do Forte 511, 91360-000, Porto Alegre - RS Brasil wasn't it. You should hammer this home with a sledge if necessary. Does this company stand behind what it makes or stand "way behind" the companies that import it.

Please lay this on them and advise this forum what their response is.

I really want to know because if they do not do you right I will sell what I have and abandon all thoughts of the 9mm and the old Browning .22 clone that I "thought" I wanted.

    Please keep us all informed.

Guns made by the Taurus manufacturing company have been imported for several decades. The Taurus that we now know has been around since the early 1980's. They are the ones that have the lifetime warranty. Some of the earlier guns were imported by various importers, they were not Taurus. Those guns, in my experience, had serations in the flutes of the cylinder. If you know what you are looking for, you can see that these were not nearly as well made as the Taurus of the last 19 years. They were more akin to the S&W copies that came from Spain years ago. You could see that they were trying to make it look like a S&W, but didn't quite get there.

The Taurus you sent them is somewhat like the TZ-75 from FIE. Although made by Tanfoglio of Italy, just like the current EAA Witness, EAA had absolutely nothing to do with its import. Eventhough the gun is made by the same people, the current importer has no obligation to you or the gun. Just like the new High Standard people have no obligation to service the High Standard of 50 years ago. The same goes for old Dan Wessons, H&R's, Charter Arms, etc.

In each case there is a company with the same name, maybe even the exact same design, but they had nothing to do with the manufacture of your gun. Hence they shouldn't have any obligation to do anything for you. If they do, it is out of the good nature of their hearts, in an attempt to possibly gain your business in the future.

I'm sorry for your situation, but I'd have to say that they are going out of their way here, and they really have no need to. If your's is as old as I think it is, they wouldn't have the parts to fix it anyway. They've done a total redesign since then and several changes in between. As for taking their offer, that is up to you. It doesn't suck, but you might find an even better deal on a used newer Taurus, S&W, Ruger, or Colt, etc. The one you sent them, might be worth $20-40 in parts to a parts dealer and that is if they need them. I hope this helps.

I really have to take issue with the last post.

Who manufactued the product? Is or was it fit and merchantible for the purpose intended?

Taurus or in this instance Forjas Taurus S. A made the piece of s@#$&
and they should be accountable for the performance of same. Let's say this was a Walther imported by XXXX is Walther off the hook?

Why should we the public lay down just because they had a dirt ball importer for perhaps a marginal product?

I really think you need to lay it on them that it was made by Forjas Taurus S.A. and why is it such a pice of crap!!

What does everyone else think?? - Please sir - may i send you my wallet?

This is a very touchy subject, I can relate to your flustration. Taurus told you the truth but, the truth is not always fair. Today they manufacture high quality firearms. They didnt have as good high quality firearms then as they do now. Now the customer service I feel needs to prove thereselves by making things right with you. And in my opinion they have not done that yet. I feel they need to make you a better offer than they have. I would request the highest available supervisor working and try to solve your grievance and you have one. I have been a Tauras fan for a few years. I hope you will keep us informed as to the out come of this, I may change my opinion of them. I wish you the best of luck.

Well i'm openminded and open to the experts on the board, however I didn't mention a Taurus rep was at my range a couple of weeks ago telling everyone about the guarantee for life. When he finished I showed him the pistol and he said it would probably be replaced by Taurus because as you noted parts were not available anymore.I was never really happy about the quality and accuracy was minimal at best. I am proud to hear that this is much improved, if this model2-650041is good,i might consider the deal, and in fairness they said it would have the guarantee for life.I just get tired of hearing these guarantees and then when it counts they leave you hanging. I will call Taurus Tuesday or wednesday and follow your suggestions. I really don't have anything to lose, and will post what happened. Thanks for all the input.

I owned a Taurus model 608 Stainless 357, Quality was on par with a jennings. I think I will stick with a S&W, or Colt from now on. It's very hard to beat a Python or 686.

Just as an aside, I have a taurus PT111 and a model 65. After less than 6 months I had to send the PT111 back for a replacement part, took over 6 weeks to get it back. When I got it back the rear site was trashed. I complained and they sent me a new one after 3 weeks. Tomorrow I trade it! I would never buy another pistol from them again, not only was the service terrible but the attitude I got from the people on the phone.

I think the question was is a model 2-650041 for only $230 bucks a good deal. I think so. As to the warranty questions. Name a company thats perfect? There are none. We all take the chance of getting a lemon or not getting what we think we paid for at one time or another. We shouldn't trash Taurus because they drop the ball once in a while. What if they went out of business like so many other arms maufacturers? Or cut a deal with the federal govt? Get the idea? Then we would have one less company to buy from & push the compettition. RG
