i was looking through a shotgun news and saw a bunch of adds for gun kits......are these fully functioning weapons?......some said that they were complete accept they didn't have the reciever.......they were cheaper than the actual gun so i was wondering what the deal was.

    thanks,

These ads usually indicate "except for receiver". That's because you currently can't import most used military firearms, but "parts" are importable. And, many of these parts kits are for full auto weapons, which of course will never be importable or buildable.

I can't see much use for most of these parts kits, unless you are just looking for spare parts for a functioning weapon that you already own. A few can be assembled onto domestically produced semi-auto receivers. Many parts kits, like the Uzi kits, won't fit the semi-auto receiver. Be sure that you know exactly how you will use any kit before investing your money.

For many of us this is the only way to legally own some of the assault type guns since the ban. Cost can be prohibitive with pre-ban FALs, CETMEs, and H&Ks. to name a few. You can build one of these from the parts kits with enough American made parts to have a perfectly legal and affordable weapon.
