S&W Year of Production

I don't have a S&W book and a gun shop could not tell me the year of production of M-15, 4", K-38 #992743. Would appreciate in info.

    If the serial number has a K prefix it was made in 1970. The Combat Masterpiece, aka the model 15 went into production in 1949. This is from Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Supica and Nahas.
