Smith and Wesson 627 Firing Pin

I need help from anybody that might know. I need to replace the firing pin on my 627 floatin pin. My gunsmith told me he has never done this on the new Smith's. He and I came to the conclusion that I should see if we could get some help from the message board. So any help or direction to help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Those frame mounted firing pins are much more work to change than the hammer mounted. Check for an S&W authorized repair station in your area and take it to them, or you can send it to the Smith factory.

My large frame S&W firing pin is mounted in the frame, and to remove it I remove the sideplate and pull the pin that protrudes from the frame at the top of the opening, the pin and spring come right out, (Hammer must be at full cock position) Yours may differ.
